Postdam Conference 1945 | Josef Stalin, Winston Churchill and Harry Truman met at Postdam to discuss issues regarding Germany, reparations and eastern Europe. |
'Iron Curtain' | This was a barrier separating the Soviet bloc and the West that developed after the spread of communism in eastern Europe after World War two. |

Bay of Pigs | The area were Cuban exiles landed in a failed operation attempting to overthrow Castro's communist government in Cuba. |
Nuclear Test Ban Treaty | This was a treaty signed by the US and USSR in 1963 aiming to reduce the testing of nuclear weapons. |
Military-Industrial Complex | This is a country's military establishment and those industries producing arms or other military materials. US president Eisenhower invested heavily here during the Vietnamese War. |
Guerrilla Warfare | A form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants use military tactics including ambushes e.g. Viet Cong. |
Operation Rolling Thunder 1965 | This was an aerial bombardment campaign launched in February 1965. It involved the bombing of North Vietnamese cities, factories and the Ho Chi Minh trail. |
Agent Orange | A poisonous weed killer to defoliate the jungle and expose the Viet Cong guerrillas. |
My Lai Massacre 1968 | In March 1968, US troops killed between 300-400 civilians in the village of My Lai. |
Détente | The process of easing hostility or strained relations, especially between countries. |
Politburo | The principal policy making committee in Soviet Union. |
Boycott | An act of voluntary and intentional abstention from interaction with an individual, organization, or country as an expression of protest. |
