INDEPENDENT EMIRATE
1. 756- 929
  1. Abd ar-Rahman I became Emir of Córdoba
  2. It is governed by the Umayyad dynasty
  3. It is independet from the Abbasid Caliphate
  4. The Emirate became prosperous
CALIPHATE OF CÓRDOBA
1. 929-1031
  1. Abd ar-Rahman III declares himself Caliph of Córdoba
  2. Córdoba is one of the biggest cities in the world
TAIFAS AND NOTH AFRICAN RULERS
1. 1031-1212
  1. Caliphate disintegrates into smaller kingdoms called Taifas
  2. The Taifas were not strong enough to resist the Christian Kings
  3. They asked for help from the Almoravids (Berbers from Moroco)
  4. Later, another group from North Africa, the Almohads, took over from the Almoravids
  5. Christian defeted the Almohads at the battle of Navas de Tolosa
KINGDOM OF GRANADA
1. 1212-1492
  1. Granada is the only Muslim kingdom left
  2. It was ruled by the Nasrid Dynasty
  3. It was prosperous, but its army was weak
  4. Isabella and Ferdinand conquer it.
