When stimulated by ACTH, the adrenal gland secretes cortisol and other
steroid hormones. ACTH is produced by the pituitary gland and released
into the petrosal venous sinuses in response to stimulation by
corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) from the hypothalamus
