  1. Formed in 1962
    1. Aim: To make the EU self-sufficient in foods production and to improve farmers incomes
    2. Ireland joined EU in 1973
      1. The CAP has given Eire €44 billion in funds since then
      2. AT this time England was Eire only export partner
        1. Through the CAP it has given Eire the support to export all over EU
          1. Market Support + Price Guarantees
        2. Irish farmers incomes rose by 60% in the 60s
          1. Farmers were paid on how much the producced
            1. Led to reform in 1992
              1. Farmers were no longer paid on production - Single Direct Payment
                1. Quotas Placed to prevent food surpluses
              2. This meant farmers benefited from a disproportionate way

                  2. Although CAP has impacted negatively on Ireland
