Constructive Wave - Gentle waves that create things by depositing
material
Destructive Wave - Where strong waves damage something and causes erosion
CONSTRUCTIVE WAVE -->
1. Low wave height
2. Long wave length
3. Powerful
swash-pushes
material up the
beach 4. Weak
backwash
DESTRUCTIVE WAVE
1. High
wave
height 2.
Short wave
length 3.
Weak
swash -
pushes
material up
the beach
4.
Powerful
backwash
EROSION
Hydraulic Action - Sheer force of the water erodes banks
etc.
Attrition - Rocks and pebbles collide with each other and get
smaller
Corrasion - Material carried by the water erodes the
coastline
Corrosion - Chemicals in the water erode the
coastline
TRANSPORTATION
Traction - Big rocks roll along the sea
bed
Saltation - Material bounces along the sea
bed
Suspension - Material floats in the
water
Solution - Material dissolved in the
water
LONGSHORE DRIFT -->
The waves come in at an angle, however the backwash is always at a
90º angle due to gravity. Therefore, this process is repeated and
material is carried down the beach in the opposite direction of the
prevailing winds
