Factors affecting the rate of Photosynthesis
Rate of photosynthesis increases as temperature rises
Once it reaches its optimum temperature it will start to decrease if the temperature gets any higher
This is called because it is becoming "denatured"
Rate of photosynthesis increases as the carbon dioxide concentration increases
The rate of photosynthesis continues to increase until it levels off
Therefore does not denature
As light intensity increases the rate of photosynthesis increases
The rate of photosynthesis continues to rise until it levels off
Therefore does not denature
Respiration
Is an exothermic reaction
Aerobic
Needs oxygen
Needs glucose
Makes Carbon dioxide and Water
Waste products
More energy released
Occurs in mitochondria
word equation
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide +water
Anaerobic
Does not need oxygen
Makes lactic acid
Less energy released
Occurs in cytoplasm
Word equation
In humans
Glucose = Lactic acid
In fungi and plants
Glucose = carbon dioxide +ethanol
Photosynthesis
What does it?
Algae
Phytoplants in leaves
Some bacteria
It is an endothermic reaction
This means that it absorbs energy from its surroundings
The equation for photosynthesis is
carbon dioxide + water = sugar + oxygen
