          1. Forms when mama moves up to the surface of the earth through a vent
            1. Vent is a small opening in the earths surface from which magma explodes onto the surface
            2. magma is stored underground in a magma reservoir
              1. magma erupts out of the vent through the crater
                1. when magma reaches the earths surface it is lava, it cools down and hardens around the vent
