    1. Perceived threat to self esteem if you engage in task (and can't do it perfectly)
      1. Failure to engage with activity provides short-term relief from anxiety
        1. e.g. rejection if what you do isn't good enough
          1. long-term enjoyment or fulfilment is lost for sake of immediate relief
            1. Could also be other threats such as financial costs, loss of a friend, etc.
              1. welcome distractions as a lifestyle as it temporarily allays fears of failure
            2. LFT: (LOW FRUSTRATION TOLERANCE)
              1. Perceived inability to endure frustration, boredom, hard work, discomfort, etc.
                1. Unpleasant tasks are avoided or given up quickly
                  1. Core is:"I can't stand present pain for future gain"
                    1. Unfinished unpleasant tasks pile up more
                      1. Increased stress
                  2. REBELLION
                    1. Way of expressing your anger at someone by delaying tasks
                      1. resentment at the way you are being treated
                        1. Provides a temporary sense of control or 'being boss'
                          1. can backfire by causing more tension or further loss in the relationship
