Work & Power
KINETIC ENERGY ( KE )
KE = Energy of Movement
Measured in Joules ( It's Energy )
KE = 1/2 x mass x speed(sq)
WORK DONE
Work Done = Energy Transfered
Measured in Joules ( J )
Work Done = Force X Distance Moved W = FD
If a car is pushed 5m with a force of 340N how much work has been done to it?
ANSWER:
W = 5 x 340
= 1700J
POWER
Power = The rate of doing Work
Measured in Watts ( W ) or J/s
Power = Work Done / Time Taken
If a bulb outputs 10J of energy in 1min. Find its power
ANSWER:
P= 10/60
= 1/6
GRAVITATIONAL POTENITAL ENERGY ( GPE )
GPE = Stored Energy
The stored energy is given to the object when it is raised up and only released when the object falls again
GPE = Mass x g(10) x height GPE = mgh
GPE --> KE
Falling objects convert GPE into KE
The KE Gained
=
GPE Lost
