    Annotations:

    • The Rite: The Sprinkling of holy water: The Liturgy of the Word: Laying on of hands: Spirit.  ThHoly Spirit is able to give the person strength and courage during their suffering. ·         The Anointing of oil: The priest anoints the sick person’s forehead and their hands with oil. ‘Through this holy anointing, may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit.’ ‘May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up.’ This is the third ceremony in which a person is anointed, the first being after baptism and the second after confirmation. The oil symbolises God’s blessing, his healing and comfort. Liturgy of the Eucharist: Holy Communion may be offered. This brings the person into close contact with Christ and offers strength and healing.
