      2. DISADVANTAGES
        1. Used before adhesive materials were available
          1. Retentive cavities were cut
            1. Removes more tooth sub than necessary

                  1. TREATMENT OF RESIDUAL CARIES - remove soft infected dentine, leave hard stained dentine
                    1. CORRECTION OF ENAMEL MARGINS - remove weakened enamel edges, bevel edges
                      1. CAVITY DEBRIDEMENT - cavity thouroughly washed and dried to remove debris and bacteria
                2. LINE ANGLE - where 2 lines meet
                  1. CAVOSURFACE ANGLE - where cavity wall meets tooth surface
                    1. POINT ANGLE - where 3 or more lines meet

                    1. Gain access to the caries (outline form)
