Resource summary
Feudalism
Started because of the King
Gave bits of his land to nobles so it was easier to manage.
All the people he loaned to had to swear loyalty to him, provide military aid, give advice, and pay a fee.
Started a three tiered structure to society.
King on top. Powerful lords (dukes, counts) middle. Vassals and peasants bottom.
A noble could loan land if he had enough power. And if a vassal had enough power he could loan land as well.
ANy person who is loaned land from anyone still has to swear loyalty, provide military aid, give advice, and pay a fee.
