    1. Representative deomcracy - when the people chose a person or party to represent their views
      1. Direct democracy - a form of democracy in which citizens themselves assemble to debate and decide issues of public importance
        1. Pluralism - a system of government that encourages participation and allows for free and fair competition between competing interests
          1. In a pluralist democracy:
            1. There will be a diverse range of competing interests
              1. There will be numerous access points - points of leverage where pressure groups can exert influence
                1. No single group will be able to exclude any other from political process
                2. Some refer to the UK as having a pluralist democracy but some feel that we are still ruled by the elite
