The main conflict is that Minli's
Mother is not happy with her poor
fortune and is very unhappy all the
time. This is making Minli worry and
making her feel hopeless.
The cause is the emperor of the
city is greedy and very difficult to
consult about the needs and wants
of the people
The conflict is brought out when Minli, her
father, and her mother come home to their
poorly-built house after working in the fields
from morning to sundown. The family sits down
to eat and Minli's Mother sighs and serves what
little rice they all harvested that day. Then
Minli's Mother sighs and complains of their
poor fortunes.
