Physics Equations Mind Map
Newtons Laws
1st Law:
If there is no resultant force acting on an object it will move with constant velocity
2nd Law
If resultant force acts on a body, the body will accelerate in the direction of the force
F = ma
3rd Law
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction
Waves
frequency = number of waves / time
Refractive index = speed of light in vacuum / speed of light in medium
Snells Law: Ni sin(i) = Nr sin(r)
Wavelength(m) = v / f
Total internal reflection occurs when a wave hits the boundary between two substances at an angle greater than the critical angle
One oscillation(s) = 1/f
Momentum
Impulse
Resultant force x time = change in momentum
P = mass x velocity (kgm/s)
KE = P² / 2m
After a collision, momentum remains the same as before the collision
m1 v1 = m2 v2
Power = energy supplied / time
Power = work done (J) / time(s)
Gain in KE = Loss in GPE
v = √2gh
Circular Motion Equation
F = m v ² / r
Moment = force x distance
F = ma
a = v-u / t
S = d / t
KE = 1/2 m v²
Velocity = displacement / time
Pressure
Pressure in Liquid = height x density x gravity
force / area
p1 v1 = p2 v2
Pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to its volume
p1 / t1 = p2 / t2
Annotations:
Temperature must be in kelvin
GPE = mgh
Work done = force x distance in direction of travel
Specific Latent Heat
Tells us how much energy is needed to change the state of a mass of a substance at constant temperature
E = mL
Efficiency = useful energy in / total energy in
Energy supplied = power x time
Density = mass / volume
Weight = mass x gravity
