  1. Inorganic ions have an electric charge
    1. Inorganic ions is one which doesn't contain carbon (although there are a few exceptions)
      1. Found in organisms where they occur in solution in the cytoplasm of cells and in body fluids and as well as part of larger molecules
        1. Ferrous Fe2+ ions (Iron ions) are found in haemoglobin where they play a role in the transport of oxygen
          1. Phosphate ions form a structural role in DNA molecules and a role in storing energy in ATP molecules
            1. Hydrogen ions are important in determining the pH of solutions and therefore the functioning of enzymes
              1. sodium ions are important in the transport of glucose and amino acids across plasma membranes
