Resource summary

Calcium
  1. Calcium oxide is useful for making glass, cement and limewater.
    1. Calcium carbonate decomposes to make calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
      1. Limewater is calcium hydroxide solution. When it reacts with carbon dioxide, a cloudy precipitate of calcium carbonate forms, because calcium carbonate is insoluble.
        1. In thermal decomposition chemicals break down into more than one substance when heated.
          1. The reaction between calcium oxide and water produces calcium hydroxide.
            1. Acidic soil can be made less acidic by mixing it with calcium carbonate, hydroxide, or oxide.
              1. Calcium compounds are used to stop sulfur dioxide getting into the atmosphere.
