Phospholipase C Pathway
PLC is a membrane-assoiciated enzyme
Activated by the G-protein that it is located close to.
are 2 second messengers associated with this pathway:
1,2- diacylglycerol (DAG)
inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate (IP3)
Both of these can freely diffuse in the cytosol
IP3 opens Ca2+ channels in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane.
causes a rise in intracellular Ca2+
recruits Protein Kinase C (PKC) to the plasma membrane
DAG activates PKC
The activated membrane-assoiciated kinase can phosphorylate cellular enzymes and receptors (altering their activity).
ER stores get depleted
So, proteins assoiciated with the IP3-gated Ca2+ channels open store-operated Ca2+ channels in the plasma membrane
This allows influx of extracellular Ca2+
Balanced :D
both arise from the cleavage of phosphatidyl inositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2)
on activation, PLC cleaves a membrane phospholipid called PIP2, yielding 2 second messengers:
