    1. Between night of 3rd June and 5th June 1993.
      1. South of Scarborough in North Yorkshire.
        1. Famous since it destroyed 4* Holbeck Hall Hotel.
          1. Rotational landslide cut back a 60m cliff by 70m.
          2. Causes
            1. 140mm of rainfall in previous two months.
              1. Issue with drainage of slope.
                1. Pore water pressure built up in slope.
                  1. Geology- boulder clay and glacial till (very weak rock).
                    1. Buildings, due to their foundations increased the shear pressure.
                      1. Footpaths along the cliff.
                      2. Impacts
                        1. Affected tourism for Holbeck Hall Hotel as damaged beyond state of repair. Hotel no longer exists.
                          1. No casualties or deaths.
                          2. Human Reaction
                            1. Evacuation from hotel.
                              1. Beach and footpaths along cliff closed off.
                                1. Lots of media coverage, showing hotel collapse.
                                  1. Now have rock armour protecting this part of cliff.
