In the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. It is
about two teenage lovers, from enemy families, who are forced
to suicide. Shakespeare explores explores the theme of
teenage love and family feud. Several characters contribute to
the unfolding tragedy and must take portions of the blame. Th
audience is left to decide who is mostly to blame or if it is just
fates fault.
1 - Nurse
The first person that could be blamed is Juliet's nurse. She is her wet nurse, so with this physical
bond of her breast feeding her, she seems more of a more to Juliet than her her real mother. The
Nurse was one of the only people to know what was going on between Romeo and Juliet. As a
responsible adult, she should have been faithful to her employees and told her parents. "there stays
a husband to make you a wife." This shows that the nurse was going to go along with the wedding,
and encouraging the love and rushing them into it, without telling the parents anything. Nurse was
also changing side of the arguments, at one point she was approving the mariage, and the next
minute she thought she should marry Paris even though Juliet was married to Romeo. Whilst doing
this the nurse knew if she would marry Paris she would be doing the act of bigimy, being married to
two people at once. This would could have sent Juliet to jail and worse she would spend her afterlife
in hell
2 - Friar Lawrence
Friar Lawrence can be called the culprit for the tragic deaths for
many reasons. He should just said no to the wedding because it
wouldn't have escalated so much. The Friar only went along wit the
wedding because he thought he could sort out the family feud. After
he married them he didn't even tell the parents about the wedding.
"For this alliance may so happy prove. To turn your households'
rancour to pure love" ...
