current system outdated -
needs to be individualised to
foster creativity (Friedman,
Zhao, Robinson, Noddings and
Lipman)
Friedman, Zhao and
Robinson believe

losing focus of hands on skills
When did we ever teach hands on
skills? Schools have diversified
more than ever over the last
century
ICT
Has the concept of hands
on just been reinvented to
adapt to a tech society?
instantaneous
rewards that
technology has
given us
Eastern philosophies of
the root of unhappiness
(or evil as it may be)
being desire
Gotama lectured that "personal
gratification is the root and
cause of suffering in the world."
the future of education should
unbiasedly inform young minds of
both good and bad in society, train
positive actions for change. ICT
provides powerful information to
every person. Teaching them that
they have the influence to create
change by using that information is
the next step in education.
Another example is research, I've heard from
my dad multiple times that when he was in
school he has to use books to get the
information he needs but now all you have to
do is just google it, 'back in my day we would
have to wait weeks to get information from the
council about something, now you can go in
and they can pull it up on the computer in 5
mins' says my nan. Which i believe is a good
thing.
real world
applications
disagree that hand skills is being lost because of ICT, ICT opens
the world up to a wide of verity of different things it's the way
you use it, even as a Tradie you use ICT to create what your
going to build, making the pre plan and yes I know you can
draw it but a piece of paper can easily get wet or wreaked. You
can also see things in 3D with the use of ICT when you couldn't
if you were to draw it.
Is your argument that ICT is taking over in terms of
planning and design in trades? Or that it actually
isn't and it should be?
With your reference to Nel
Noddings, do you believe then that
education should take a more
feminine approach?
I just like the value that she places
on every child regardless of their
goal in life in respect to what
profession they aim for.
Lipman: teaching
philosophy at a young
age
But should also be
free to "just be kids"
Friedman's flat earth is
making kids grow up
younger
may be "growing up" faster
physically or sexually, I see a
stunting in the emotional and
interpersonal growth of many
young people.
my brother year 6 graduation
recently and found out that they
were teaching children about sexual
education. So I do agree that children
these days are being taught things
they should know until they at least
reach teenage years
on my Prac in prep my teacher was going to inform the
children what good and bad touching is which I believe is
a good thing but also opens a child's mind to sexual
experiences that they should have to worry about. I
believe that it's the society that these kids are being
brought up in. I mean some parents these days are still
children themselves and their parents are just allowing it
and not realising that their child is still a child at the age
of 15.
I'm not sure whether I totally
understand where you're going
with this one? How does it link back
to the future of education? What do
you want Sex Ed to look like in the
future?
the "current state of
society", is it possible that
it's the state of society that
needs to change?
Old fashioned beliefs
and the original
intention education. Is
it society that should
adapt to education?
"harsh reality" I cannot see the
future of education being to change
society as much as reforming to
cater for current society as it would
feel like a step backwards
don't think it would be seen as realistic
by society as they would feel as they
would be going backwards as there is a
constant subconscious aim for
improvement.
It is certainly popular to try to
be a "progressive" society (look
at Canada for example).
societal demands
and how they
change over time
Thomas Friedman and Daniel Pink
in how they recognise how the
education system doesn't
compliment the current state of
society
Friedman's view of the future due
to globalisation and technological
advances
Just because there is a screen in
front of kids doesn't mean they are
using any cognitive skills, the apps
that are available these days can
bring creativeness and that's one
thing a child needs
playing devils advocate, but a lot of this
stuff started to change when working
mothers were normalised in society. Do
you think that there might be some merit
to the nuclear family? Do men and women
serve specific roles in raising the right
kind of people and creating the secondary
support for schooling education at home.
Did having a full time mother raise better
citizens?
demise of religion
The schooling education has to change to fit in with today's society. There's no
point in teaching children how to plant one seed in at a time to get minimal food
when there are machines that you can use to plant multiple at one time and get
more from it.
an element of circular
reasoning when it
comes to society
needing to change, or
education needing to
change.
Societal change needs to
happen unilaterally. In order for
this to happen, then kids need
to be made aware of how their
societal circumstances shape
their world view, and be able to
filter out these preceptions.
students can affect their
community when they know
how to influence politics -
current affairs and politics
should be taught in education to
empower future students
At what age do you feel
students should know
these things though?
Friedman - flat world
the playing field is no longer
based on where you live but
rather the access to
technology you have.
those who do not have access to
Internet or wider technology are
still left at a disadvantage to those
who are raised in a more
industrialised country
schools need to help students foster
the inherent creativity. Robinson
believes that schools crush
creativity. It is my belief that schools
should be where students are
encouraged to express their
creativity in a safe and nurturing
environment (Noddings)
Pink states that the word is
moving from left to right brain
thinking and that in the future
logical/left brain thinking is not
going to be enough. This is
definitely evident in today's
day and age as there are
industries that are mainly run
by machines so we can no
longer afford to be
"entrenched by industrialised
ways of thinking" to put it in
Ken Robinson's words.
equilibrium

both creative and
logical thinking
skills
1) we live in a global world now not a small tribal community 2) we should evolve
from only educating about things relevant to the immediate community 3) I
think this will prepare and foster worldly individuals rather than sheltered naive
hermits if (I'm being extremely black and white about it).
That's a really good point! It is an
interesting expansion on the flatworld idea
- not only does our shrinking world have
implications on the labour force, but there's
also a cultural implication there as well
