3. Parris likes to make a spectacle of himself; he's very intent on appearences
  1. Page 1: "Reverand Parris is discovered kneeling beside the bed, EVIDENTLY in prayer
4. The candle burning next to Betty's bed symbolises hope
  1. Page 1: "A candle still burns"
Act 2
1. The darkness of the room keeps things hidden- the secrets in the marriage
2. The long room allows Proctor and Elizabeth to keep thier physical distance from each other- a metaphor for their emotional distance
