1. KEY WORDS

   • Fetch - The distance that the wave has travelled
   • Swash - Where the wave comes in
   • Backwash - Where the wave goes back out
   • Constructive Wave - Gentle waves that create things by depositing material
   • Destructive Wave - Where strong waves damage something and causes erosion

2. CONSTRUCTIVE WAVE -->

   • 1. Low wave height 2. Long wave length 3. Powerful swash-pushes material up the beach 4. Weak backwash

3. DESTRUCTIVE WAVE

   • 1. High wave height 2. Short wave length 3. Weak swash - pushes material up the beach 4. Powerful backwash

4. EROSION

   • Hydraulic Action - Sheer force of the water erodes banks etc.
   • Attrition - Rocks and pebbles collide with each other and get smaller
   • Corrasion - Material carried by the water erodes the coastline
   • Corrosion - Chemicals in the water erode the coastline

5. TRANSPORTATION

   • Traction - Big rocks roll along the sea bed
   • Saltation - Material bounces along the sea bed
   • Suspension - Material floats in the water
   • Solution - Material dissolved in the water

6. LONGSHORE DRIFT -->

   • The waves come in at an angle, however the backwash is always at a 90º angle due to gravity. Therefore, this process is repeated and material is carried down the beach in the opposite direction of the prevailing winds
