Jekyll creates Hyde in order to escape
the binds of Victorian society
"I was the first that could thus plod in the public
eye with a load of genial respectability, and in a
moment, like a schoolboy, strip off these lendings
and spring headlong into the sea of liberty."
Annotations:
The creation of Hyde therefore allows Jekyll the freedom to do as he pleases without fear of being judged or rejected from society.
"solution to the bonds
of obligation"
The repression of Hyde, or ones darker nature,
will only make it stronger when it is unleashed
"My devil had long been caged, he came out roaring."
