Coastlines 1
  1. KEY WORDS
    1. Fetch - The distance that the wave has travelled
      1. Swash - Where the wave comes in
        1. Backwash - Where the wave goes back out
          1. Constructive Wave - Gentle waves that create things by depositing material
          2. CONSTRUCTIVE WAVE -->
            1. 1. Low wave height 2. Long wave length 3. Powerful swash-pushes material up the beach 4. Weak backwash
            2. DESTRUCTIVE WAVE
              1. 1. High wave height 2. Short wave length 3. Weak swash - pushes material up the beach 4. Powerful backwash
                1. Destructive Wave - Where strong waves damage something and causes erosion
              2. EROSION
                1. Hydraulic Action - Sheer force of the water erodes banks etc.
                  1. Attrition - Rocks and pebbles collide with each other and get smaller
                    1. Corrasion - Material carried by the water erodes the coastline
                      1. Corrosion - Chemicals in the water erode the coastline
                      2. TRANSPORTATION
                        1. Traction - Big rocks roll along the sea bed
                          1. Saltation - Material bounces along the sea bed
                            1. Suspension - Material floats in the water
                              1. Solution - Material dissolved in the water
                              2. LONGSHORE DRIFT -->
                                1. The waves come in at an angle, however the backwash is always at a 90º angle due to gravity. Therefore, this process is repeated and material is carried down the beach in the opposite direction of the prevailing winds
