Resource summary

The Eye
  1. Sclera - tough white outer layer which protects the eye
    1. Cornea - transparent part of sclera, bends light rays
      1. Choroid layer - contains black pigment which prevents light reflecting within the eye
        1. Iris - gives colour to the eye, muscle which changes shape to control how much light enters the eye
          1. Retina - inner most lining, contains rods and cones to help us see in dark and light
            1. Lens - bends light rays to help focus them onto the fovea
              1. Vitreous humour - gel like, gives shape to the eye
                1. Pupil - hole in centre of iris, allows light enter
                  1. Fovea - many cones present, point of most accurate vision
                    1. Aqueous humour - watery liquid in front of lens, gives shape and nutrients
                      1. Optic nerve - carries messages from the eye to the brain
                        1. Suspensory ligaments - connect the lens to the cillary muscle
                          1. Cillary muscle - help with accommodation (changing of lens shape)
                            1. Blind spot - there's no rods or cones as this is where the optic nerve leaves the eye
                              1. Conjunctiva - transparent layer, protects the eye
    2. Looking at something close
      1. Cillary muscle contracts, suspensory ligaments relax
        1. lens is thick
          1. Looking at something far away
            1. Cillary muscle relax, supspensory ligaments relax
              1. Lens is narrow
      2. Long-sightedness
        1. Focuses past the fovea
          1. Corrected with convex lens
        2. Short-sightedness
          1. Focuses before the fovea
            1. Corrected with concave lens
