Harvey was an English physician who was the first to describe accurately how blood was pumped around the body by the heart. 

He was born in 1578 in Kent. he studied medicine at Cambridge and padua. he worked as a doctor and lecturer in anatomy. harvey published a book in 1628 called an anatomical account of the motion of the heart and blood in animals. It describes his experiment and explaining how the heart works as a pump circulating the blood around the body . he died in 1657.  

It took over 40 years before Harveys ideas were accepted by other doctors.

He worked out through experiment and observation that:  veins only carry blood, rather than mixture of blood and air blood is not constantly manufactured by the liver and is not used up as it moves around the body and that blood is circulated around the body. he also suggest that the blood must go through ting blood vessels in order to move from arteries to vein.
