The central nervous system is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. It can be further subdivided into the voluntary and the autonomic nervous system. The voluntary nervous system carries nervous impulses to body muscles under voluntary control whereas the autonomic nervous system carries nerve impulses to glands, smooth muscle and cardiac muscle and is done subconsciously
