The Bible states "be not conformed to this world." (Romans 12:2), which is why different forms of contact with the outside world is limited in the Amish society, as well as the use of technology. Descended from the religious immigrants from central and north Europe in the 16th century, the Amish have their own traditional dress and some speak a different language, Pennsylvanian dutch. The Amish culture and lifestyle have both positive and negative impacts on the quality of life in the society.
