Onomatopoeia By using onomatopoeic words, the piece of writing is brought to life through sound and the sound is consequently reinforced by the reader-creates soundscape and immediacy with the reader.
Sibilance This reinforces the softer sounds to impart a whispering or gentle tone and rhythm.
Alliteration Repeated consonant sounds create a tone and rhythm which connects to the subject matter.
Assonance The effect of assonance is much the same as that of alliteration- ap particular tone or rhythm is created through a choice of sounds that is emphasised - or the words are connected and therefore stand out.
