Human Development Index | The Human Development Index (HDI) is a tool to measure the wellbeing of a country and takes in account aspects of life rather than simply finances. The HDI is called a composite index because it comprises more than just one measurement. Human Rights: Political and Civil librities | Political and Civil Liberties: Right to life and civil integrity, a ban on slavery and forced labour, protection from torture and freedom of thought/religion & a right to vote |
Human Rigths: Collective | Collective Rights: Rights of groups, self-determination, a clean environment and peace. |
Human Rights: Economic/Social | Right to work and earn a decent wage, right to trade unions, equality between men and women, protection of families, pregnant women and children |
Why was the declaration of human rights created? | Born out of the atrocities and enormous loss of life during World War II, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948 to provide a common understanding of what everyone’s rights are. It forms the basis for a world built on freedom, justice and peace. |
