Identify the main parts of the eye | The retina The lense The Corena The Pupil The Optic nerve The Iris |
How has the Iris adapted to their function? | The Iris can constrict or dilate to change the amount of light entering the eye. |
How has the Cornea adapted to their function? | The cornea refracts the light that enters through the pupil together. |
How has the Lens adapted to their function? | The lens receives the light rays from the cornea it fine tunes the light using the Ciliary Muscles (which makes the lens fatter or thinner for far/near objects) |
How has the Retina adapted to their function? | The retina has layers of Rods and cones The Rods- They detect difference in light intensity The Cones- They are the receptors that detect different colours (some cones see red and some see green and blue) |
Why are some people Shortsighted? | Shortsightedness could be due to the eyeball being too long or the cornea being too curved both resulting in the light rays from far away distances not hitting the retina. |
Why are some people Longsighted? | This is the opposite of Shortsightedness as the eyeball is either too short or the Cornea is too flat. |
How are people colour blind? | People with colourblindness have defective cones in their retina that do not work. |
Define Cataract | A build-up of protein in the lens that makes it cloudy resulting in faulty vision |
How does one remove a cataract? | The clouded lens could be replaced with an artificial plastic lens. |
How can Short/Longsightedness be cured? | 1. The first solution is to wear glasses or contact lenses to refract the light before it enters the eye. a- for shortsightedness divergent lenses b- for longsighted converging lenses 2. A more perminant solution is to undergo laser surgery where a laser cuts away at the cornea and reshape it. |
