Questão Responda
What is whole practice? Teaching the skill as a whole, not breaking it down into subroutines
When is whole practice best used? The skill is: fast, ballistic, discrete, highly organised, simple When the feel of the whole task is required as the learner develops and is ready to perform the whole task When links between subroutines need to be maintained or skill needs to be performed in specific order
What are the advantages of whole practice? Helps create specific images that can be stored as a motor programme in the LTM More realistic Helps produce positive transfer Makes skill consistent
What are the disadvantages of whole practice? May place unnecessary demands on performer who may not be able to cope with all aspects of the skill at once Could induce fatigue May be too much info to process
What is whole-part-whole practice? Performers attempt to perform skill as a whole then break down the skill into subroutines before going back to performing the skill as a whole
When is whole-part-whole practice best used? When the skill is: complex, highly organised When the performer is: novice
What are the advantages of whole-part-whole practice? Increases motivation when a long-standing weakness is corrected Provides immediate feedback Fluency is maintained Performer gets the feel for the whole skill
What are the disadvantages of whole-part-whole practice? Danger of negative transfer Time consuming Once part is isolated, needs to be put back into the whole skill a.s.a.p
What is progressive part practice? A.K.A Chaining Subroutine 1 taught, then SR1 + SR2, SR1+SR2+SR3, etc.
When is progressive part best used? When the skill is: serial, dangerous, low organisation, complex
What are the advantages of progressive part practice? Learner allowed to focus on one aspect of the task can correct specific weakness(es) Learner can rest during intervals, reduces fatigue Increase in motivation after each SR is completed successfully Builds an initial understanding of the skill Increase confidence after each SR Allows coach & player to focus on specific issues
What are the disadvantages of progressive part? Time consuming Might neglect feel of whole task Might ignore links between SRs Danger of negative transfer
