Questão | Responda |
Three things which increase collisions? | 1) HIGHER TEMPERATURE 2) HIGHER PRESSURE 3) LARGER SURFACE AREA |
more collisions increases? | Rate of reaction |
Why does an increased temperature cause more collisions? | As temperature is increased particles move quicker so they collide more often. |
Why does an increased pressure increase collisions? | A higher pressure causes particles to be more crowded together so they will collide more often. |
What is the minimum amount of energy needed by particles to react known as? | Activation energy |
What is a catalyst? | Is a substance that speeds up a reaction, with out being changed or used up in reaction. |
Why does a larger surface area increase collisions? | A larger surface area means particles are more exposed to other reactant therefore there are more collisions. |
What is a solid catalyst? | Gives reactant particles surface to stick to , increases successful collisions. |
Advantage of catalysts? | Work at lower temperature = less energy used in reaction = saves money |
Disadvantage of catalysts? | Can be poisoned by impurities (sulphur impurities poison iron catalysts in Haber process) |
