The Cranial nerves 1-12 supply... Head and neck structures and some organs of the body.
CN i = Olfactory = responsible for smell/ sensory
CN ii = Optic = transfers visual information/ sensory
CN iii = Oculomotor = Innervates eye muscles that enable most movements (eyelids)/ motor
CN iv = Trochlear = innervates superior oblique muscle of eye / motor
CN V = Trigeminal = sensations in the face and motor functions such as biting and chewing/ Motor & sensory
CN Vi = Abducens = controls movement of lateral rectus muscle, responsible for gaze / Motor
CN Vii = Facial = controls muscles of facial expression / sensory & Motor
CN Viii= Vestibulocochlear = hearing and balance / sensory
CN ix = Glossopharyngeal = carries afferent sensory and efferent motor information (raising larynx & pharynx) / sensory & Motor
CN X = Vagus = Controls serveral muscles of the throat & voice box. regulates heart rate & keeps gastrointestinal tract in order / Sensory & motor
CN Xi = Accessory = supplies sternocleidomastoid & trapezius muscles / motor
CN Xii = Hypoglossal = enervates extrinsic muscles of the tongue /Motor
