Undefined Terms Cannot be defined by using other figures.
Point Names a location and has no size. It is represented by a dot.
Line A straight path that has no thickness and extends forever.
Plane A flat surface that has no thickness and extends forever.
Collinear Points that lie on the same line.
Coplaner Points that lie in the same plane.
(Line) Segment Part of a line consisting of two points and all points between them.
Endpoint Point at one end of a segment or starting point of a ray.
Ray Part of a line that starts at an endpoint and extends forever in one direction.
Opposite Rays Two rays that have a common endpoint and form a line.
Postulate (axiom) A statement that is accepted as true without proof.
Distance Between any two points is the absolute value of the difference of the coordinates.
Length The distance between two points.
Congruent Segments Segments that have the same length.
Construction A way of creating a figure that is more precise.
Midpoint The point that bisects the segment into two content segments.
Bisects Divides
Segment Bisector Any ray, segment, or line that intersects a segment at its midpoint.
Angle A figure formed by two rays, or sides with a common endpoint.
Vertex Common end point of an angle.
Interior of an angle Set of all points between the sides of the angle.
Exterior of an angle Set of all points outside the angle.
Measure Usually given in degrees
Degree 1/360 of a circle.
Acute Angle Measures greater than 0 and less than 90.
Right Angle Measures 90
Obtuse Angle Measures greater than 90 and less than 180
Straight Angle Measures 180.
Congruent Angles Angles that have the same measure.
Angle Bisector Ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles.
Adjacent Angles Two angles in the same plane with a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points.
Linear Pair A pair of adjacent angles whose non-common sides are opposite rays.
Complementary Angles Two angles whose measures have a sum of 90.
Supplementary Angles Two angles whose measures have a sum of 180.
Vertical Angles Two nonadjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines.
Coordinate Plane Plane that is divided into four regions by a horizontal line (x-axis) and a vertical line (y-axis).
Midpoint formula M([x1+x2]/2 , [y1+y2]/2)
Distance Formula Square Root of ((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2)
Legs Two sides that form the right angle.
Hypotenuse The side across from the right angle that stretches from one leg to the other.
