Hierarchy of controls | Elimination (Most effective) Physically remove the hazard where possible. For example, removing a piece of noisy equipment. (Electrical generator) for example. Substitution replace the hazard. For example, using a closed Cab TBL instead of an open cab TLB to reduce noise exposure. Engineering Controls Isolate people from the hazard. Example: Ventilation system to remove dust from a work environment. Administrative Controls Change the way people work Worker rotation, in the event of exposure to a repetive task to reduce MSD Strain, this can be distributed across more people, including use of rest breaks ect. PPE (Least effective) Provide employees with personal protective equipment and train them on how to use it effectively. Wearing of dust masks instead of implementing a ventilation system. |
