Define: Language The meaningful arrangement of sounds
Define: PHONEMES Sounds that make up words but don't have meaning (ex. Phonics = learning to read by sounding out phonemes)
Define: MORPHEMES The smallest units of meaning in language, made up of phonemes (Ex. cat = 1 morphemes, cat-s = 2 morphemes)
Define: PHRASE A group of words put together to form part of a sentence (Ex. "Walking the dog" = noun phrase)
Define: SYNTAX Arrangement of words into sentences
Define: MORPHOLOGY Grammar rules/how to arrange morphemes
Define: PROSODY Tone inflections, accents, other parts of pronunciation that have meaning
