What is required in order to have a healthy diet? A healthy consists of a balance of: Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Fibre, Vitamins and Minerals with Water.
What can a poor diet eventually lead to? A person being underweight or over weight. Or deficiency diseases such as Type 2 diabetes.
What effect does exercise have on the body? Exercise increases the amount of energy expended by the body, resulting in loss of body mass as they are taking in less energy than they expend.
What is metabolic rate? The rate at which the chemical reactions in the cells occur. It varies with the amount of activity (more activity, higher rate) and can be inherited. Cholesterol is made in the liver, diet and inherited factor can determine cholesterol made.
What should be done to achieve a healthier lifestyle? Reduce the amount of animal products you eat and increase fruit and vegetable intake. Also eat less salt and exercise frequently. This will help reduce risk of stroke, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.
What are the advantage and disadvantages of a low carbonate diet? It can help lose weight extremely fast however it does not require exercise. There is also a lack of energy due to the lack of carbs, and there is not enough fruit and vegetables to make up for the loss of carbs.
What is a pathogen? A micro-organism that is responsible for causing infectious diseases.
What are the differences between bacteria and viruses? A virus is smaller than bacteria and reproduces quickly inside cells. Bacteria also reproduces quickly. They both produce toxins making us feel ill. Bacteria can cause TB and Cholera. Viruses can cause flu, colds and polio.
What is the role of white blood cells as part of the immune system? They ingest pathogens which help get rid of a infectious disease. They produce anti toxins that neutralise toxins. Also they produce antitoxins to destroy certain pathogens.
How can we alleviate ourselves from the pain of disease? Painkillers can be used. They numb the pain however don't kill pathogens. Examples of painkillers are aspirin and paracetamol.
