Questão Responda
WHMIS Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
Fluid Anything without a fixed shape that can flow
Slurry A mixture of liquids and solids (ex. mud)
Hydrometer Device used to measure the density of a liquid
Pneumatic System System that uses gas under pressure to move loads. Works according to Pascal's Law
Hydraulic System System that uses liquid under pressure to move. Works according to Pascals's law
Solute Substances that dissolve into a solution
Solcent Substance that dissolves solutes
Concentration The amount of solute dissolved in a certain amount of solvent
Unsaturated Solution A solution the more solute can be dissolved into a the current temperature
Saturated Solution Solution that no more solute can be dissolved into at the current temperature
Solubility The ability to dissolve. How much solute can dissolve into a specific amount of solvent
Saturation point The point where no more solute can be dissolved into the solvent at the given temperature
Aqueous Solution Solution where water is the solvent
Thermal pollution When people take cool water out of a lake or pond and put back in warm water
Viscosity The amount of resistance a fluid has to flow
Density Measures the mass per volume. How much matter is in a given volume.
Bouyancy Tendency of an object to float when placed in a fluid
Neutral buoyancy Neither sinks nor floats
Plimsoll line Painted on the side of a ship to show how heavy a load can be placed in it in different water conditions
Compressibility When a force pushes an object
Incompressible The inability to compress a substance
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Pure substances Substances that are made up of only one type of matter. They can't be separated into different substances
Mixtures Made up of different substances. Can be separated into different substances
Mechanical (heterogeneous) mixtures Mixtures where the individual substances can be see
Suspensions Mixtures in which droplets of one substance are held in another substance. Undisturbed, it's parts will usually separate
Colloids Mixtures in which droplets of one substance are held in another substance except the drops are so small the mixture will not usually separate easily. It looks like one substance to the naked eye.
Solutions (homogeneous mixture) Mixtures of two or more substances in which the individual substances can't be seen. Solutions look like pure substances even under a microscope.
Pressure The measure of the amount of force applied to a certain area
