The Opening/Intro : The movie is based in a real story so th initial thing we see is a black background with true story written on it . So the movie begins with the actual footage of Oscar Grant and his friends being detained by the BART Police at the Fruitvale BART station. On January 1, 2009 in Oakland California at 2:15 am before the killing. The gives the audience the bases of the story’s narrative. There is no other text in the opening. Before the real footage there is a voice over the top of all of this is a voice over which is the initial scene which comes after the movie title . On top the movie title there is sound of a train arriving at a station which connects nicely with the narrative of the film as it is based on an event in a station
The Opening/Intro: Beings with text saying ‘first quarter 1981’. This clearly demonstrates that the movie is about basketball, as basketball matches are measured in four quarters. The text has a clear connection to the narrative of the movie. When text appeared the screen was back and text was white. No text was shown in the rest of the opening. The use of the date in the text shows that the opening will be a back story. Text is used to set the time of the film. The shot it begins with is an establishing shot of people moving in to a house then switches to children playing a basketball game in a park. The cuts throughout the opening are of slow pace and the shots are mostly tracking shots. This creates a calm atmosphere and audience can assume that film will not be intense.
The Opening/Intro: The opening begins with the only credit being the directors name.We hear soft piano music and a voice over of a man. While we hear this we see a long recording of a man caressing a women's hair. There is a mid close-up which allows the audience to see her facial expression. She looks innocent and slightly confused. The audience shares her confusion as we are unaware of who she his or who the narrator is.Opening ends with a fast cut to black. This takes always the calm essence that has been created through the softness of the mans voice and the long cut of the women's face. |
