What is the structure of the Earth?
What are the relative sizes of each layer in the Earth's structure?
In which part of the Earth's structure are all minerals and other resources found? The Earth's crust, oceans and atmosphere
What are tectonic plates? Large pieces that the crust is made out of, they move very slowly
Why do the tectonic plates move? Convection currents in the mantle due to radioactive decay
What was the Earth's early atmosphere like? It was formed by volcanoes. It probably consisted of mainly carbon dioxide, there may have been water vapour along with traces of methane and ammonia
How was oxygen produced? As plants spread over the earth, the levels of oxygen increased
What are the main gases in the atmosphere? Oxygen (20%) and nitrogen (80%)
How can gases be separated? By fractional distillation of liquid air at really cold temperatures
What is the carbon cycle?
Why has the amount of carbon dioxide in the air increased recently? Because of the amount of fossil fuels we are now burning
