| Why do the plates move? | The plates move because of the convection currents in the MANTLE. Hot rock rises, heated by the Earth's core. The rock spreads in two directions, cools, and sinks. Through this process of heating and cooling, the Earth's plates move apart. |
| What is convection current? |
The convection current is the rising of hot substance and the sinking of cooler substances.
