Questions to ask when creating an Authentic Assessment
1. 1. What will students know and be able to do?
  1. 2.How will you know if they have met the standards?
    1. 3. What will a good performance look like?
      1. 4. How good did they perform?
        5. How good should most students perform?
        6. What improvements were needed?
Step 1
1. Identify the Standards
  1. Review
    1. Review Authentic Assessments Created by Others
      1. Search the WIDA website for other resources
  2. Reflect
    1. What do you really think is important for your EB/EL students to be able to do?
  3. Write
    1. *Observable and measurable
      1. Use the CAN DO Indicators for EB/EL students
    2. *More narrow than a goal and broader than an objective
    3. *Does not mention a specific task
    4. *Clearly written
      1. Be aware of Academic language that may be unfamiliar to EB/EL students
    5. *Written in language easily understood
      1. Keep in mind EB/EL language profeciency levels
Step 2
1. Select an Authentic Task
  1. Students must be able to demonstrate that they can meet the standard
    1. What prior knowledge do EB/EL students have?
Step 3
1. Identify the Criteria for the Task
  1. Must have Indicators of Good Performance
Step 4
1. Create the Rubric
  1. Used to measure student performance on the task
    1. Consider the CAN DO Indicators when making the Rubric for EB/EL students
