The Nature of God
1. The Mool Mantar
  1. Ik Onkar: There is only one God
  2. Satnam: Eternal Truth
  3. Karta Purakh: He is the creator
  4. Nirhau: He is without fear
  5. Nir Vair: He is without hate
  6. Akaal Moorat: Immortal, without form
  7. Ajooni: Beyond Birth and death
  8. Saibhang: He is the enlighter, self existent
  9. Gur Prasad: He can be reached through the mercy and gracw of the true Guru
2. What Sikhs believe about God
  1. God is beyond human description
  2. God has no Gender
  3. Human words cannot fully describe the greatness of God
  4. God can be experienced when he reveals himself to Sikhs
  5. God has no limits, he is immanent: in everything.
  6. Transcendent: Beyond Everything
The Purpose of Life
1. The purpose is to earn good karma and break the cycle of rebirth to join God in mukti
  1. Manmukh: Self-centred
    1. Gurmukh- God-centred
    2. Haumai: too much pride/ego
  2. A person should meditate on the name of God and rid themselves of world attachment, Greed ect
  3. Sikhs feel human life has purpose because...
    1. They are created by God
    2. They are made to become one with god
    3. They feel spiritually purified when they devote time to meditating

  1. Omnipotent: All Powerful
  2. Omnibenevolent: All loving
  3. Omniscient: All Knowing
  4. Omnipresent: always present
3. God is present and beyond his creation. (Immanent and Transcendent)
The Oneness of Humanity
1. Guru Granth Sahib 349
  1. 'Recognise the Lord's Light within all, and do not consider social class or status; there are no classes or castes i the world hereafter'
2. Sikhs believe that God created everyone and so everyone is one/equal
  1. This is shown in the Langar
3. Khalsa Sikhs are meant to stand up for those in need and wear the 5K's as symbols of equality
  1. Sikhs also take the names Singh (boys) and Kaur (girls) to represent that they are one with God

1. Sewa means Selfless Service
