Immune response
Antigens are sites on the surface of cells allowing it to be recognised by WBC's
WBC's release antibodies
antibodies work like enzymes ( Lock & Key)
Causes problems with donor organs as WBC's may attack and slowly destroy it
Composition of Blood
Plasma
Transports materials around the body
Platelets
Clot blood
Clotting Process
Blood is exposed to air
Platelets breakdown & fibrin is formed
The fibrin forms a mesh which hardens forming a clot
White blood cells
Used during Phagocytosis
Process of Phagocytosis
The WBC approaches the bacterium
it then engulfes thr bacterium
The DNA codes for digestive enzymes
The enzymes are released and destroy the bacterium
Red blood cells
carry oxygen
biconcave cells containing no nucleus
Contain haemoglobin
