  1. Hester becomes a more kind, helping, and penitent woman
    1. Townspeople start believing the "A" stands for able
      1. They have begun to respect her in a sense
      2. Less rejected by society / More accepted
        1. She is caring less about her appearance
        2. Dimmesdale
          1. Becoming physically / morally weaker
            1. Hester notices this and states that his demeanor has taken that of a child's
            2. Begs Hester for help
              1. Hester the "sinner" tries to save Dimmesdale, but Dimmesdales the "innocent" never tried to save Hester
              2. Pearl & saving Hester
                1. She would have been executed if not for Pearl's birth
                  1. Pearl's appearance is still kept "pretty" by Hester
                    1. Without Pearl, Hester may have ended up like Mistress Hibbins doing witchcraft
