- John Ernst Steinbeck Jr, the author of the book, was born in Salinas, California, in 1902. Steiberck
graduated from high school and went to Stanford University, however, he did not finish college.
When he left college, he worked for five years in New York. However, he returns to California, where
he releases one of his first novels, "The Pastures of Heaven", in 1932. In 1935, with the novel “Tortilla
Flat”, Steinbeck won the Gold Medal of the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, as the best novel
of the year written by a Californian. In 1937, he released the book “Of Mice and Men”, which later
became a theatrical version. On December 20, 1968, John Steibeck passed away.
