Resumo de Recurso

Action potential (ms mV)
  1. Resting potential/ polarised
    1. ATP pump, 2K+in, 3Na+out
      1. -60mV potential difference inside membrane compared to outside membrane means it is polarised
        1. More permeable to K+ than Na+
          1. Kinetic E. opens Na+ channels
            1. Na+ floods in down electrochemical gradient, converting it to electrical E.
              1. If it reaches -50mV (threshold potential) then will go to depolarisation
              2. (Na+ and K+ gated channels were both closed before)
              3. (net - inside, net + outside)
                1. K+channels open, K+ going out
                2. Depolarisation
                  1. ATP pump, 2K+in, 3Na+out
                    1. K+channels open, K+ going out
                      1. +40mV potential difference inside membrane compared to outside membrane means it is depolarised
                        1. (net + inside, net - outside)
                        2. Repolarisation
                          1. ATP pump, 2K+in, 3Na+out
                            1. K+channels open, K+ going out
                              1. K+ gated channels open, K+ flows out down electrochemical gradient
                                1. More flows out than needed meaning it becomes hyperpolarised
                              2. Hyperpolarisation
                                1. ATP pump, 2K+in, 3Na+out, and permeability starts to restore balance
                                  1. (Not able to register any more pain until back to resting potential)
                                  2. K+channels open, K+ going out
                                    1. K+ gated channels close
