  1. Flame Test
    1. Metal Ions produce colours when put into a flame
      1. Lithium (Li+) : Crimson
        1. Sodium (Na+) : Yellow
          1. Potassium (K+) : Lilac
            1. Calcium (Ca2+) : Red
              1. Barium (Ba2+) : Green
            2. Sodium Hydroxide Solution
              1. The hydroxides of most metals that have ions with 2+ or 3+ charges are insoluble in water
                1. When sodium hydroxide solution is added to solutions of theses ions a precipitate of the metal hydroxide forms
                  1. Aluminium, calcium and magnesium ions form white precipitate.
                    1. When excess sodium hydroxide solution is added the precipitate of aluminium hydroxide dissolves.
                      1. Copper (II) hydroxide : blue
                        1. Iron (II) hydroxide : green
                          1. Iron (III) hydroxide : Brown
